As president I preside at all meetings and do my best to be an innovative and transformational leader emphasizing participative decision-making. We have just voted to have many of our meetings online to provide for the best communication and most effective way to be faithful to our mission: to promote and support nursing education. I very much invite email contact and remain open to any and new ideas from our constituents.

As president-elect I am here to support and represent the league to fulfill our mission. I am involved in continuing to develop our Strategic Plan for ultimate success. In the event the president is unable to fulfill her duties or is unable to preside at our executive board meeting, I am here to fulfill that need. Therefore, to add to our president’s vision, I too am open to ideas and suggestions to making our league the best it can possibly be.

As treasurer I have the responsibility of custody of all funds and securities for the SC League. I pay the bills I am sent and deposit the monies we have been credited. One crucial component of my job is to make sure the books are well maintained, balanced, and all funds are appropriately authorized. Yes, we need to have your checkbook balanced at all times…never know who will take a peek. As with my colleagues, I too am open to suggestions and most importantly any donations to our scholarship efforts.

As secretary not only do I keep the minutes of all meeting I also assist in being the ever constant reminder to keep the wheel of progress turning. I am responsible for issuing special notices and will assist in distributing announcements to our board and constituents. Communication is crucial to our success and I am very proud to be an integral part of this effort. Our minutes will be available on our web site therefore, anyone having an idea send me an email.

As past president my job continues in the support and mentorship of the current president and executive board in their continuing efforts of nursing education and scholarship in our state. Additionally, I remain current with the nominations committee. I then remain in a supportive role as it serves to maintain the much needed transitional leadership that is crucial to a successful organization. And as we support each other we also support the Leagues input to our continuing efforts in education and scholarship.  I also will chair the committee for selecting Teaching Excellence Awards.

As a membership chair it is so important to be organized, enthusiastic, and willing to jump in at every given moment…with all the board’s support I am responsible for the following:

 

 Collect and compile membership applications

 Deposit checks that are submitted with membership applications and notify the treasurer

 Send a letter and SCLN card to each person who joins or renews. {Thank you!}

 Send out a letter in the fall to all current members, deans and directors to remind persons about renewal.

 Other duties as assigned. This is the part where enthusiasm comes in.

As a director my role includes assisting with all SCLN approved activities as established in the Strategic Plan  I am responsible for distributing and accepting “Nursing Award for Excellence” applications and assisting in the final selections that are presented at our November Banquet awards and Annual Meeting. This position provides me the opportunity to be a visible and represent SCLN at various nursing functions within the state. As always we all are committed to the SCLN and welcome all input to be the best we can be in serving the needs of South Carolina.

Directors serve a 3 year term and assist with all of the SCLN activities.  My primary responsibility is to chair the Nominations Committee.  The Nominations Committee meets yearly in the summer via email/telephone, and now we are working for an online effort, to develop a list of nominees for the election held at the yearly SCLN meeting in November. I do try to keep everyone informed so we are always prepared for whatever might come our way. We all welcome your input and look forward to hearing from you during our membership and nominations campaign.
